What does the treatment of a cocaine addiction look like?

Answer:

There is hardly any difference in the treatment of various drug addictions. A person who uses cocaine can ask for assistance through his doctor or go directly to a health care center. Often a first intake interview will take place, followed by an offer of proper treatment. For some treatments, admission in a clinic is required; other treatments can be (partially) done at home.

The patients go through a couple of stages. During the first week, they will probably suffer from all kind of mood changes. Then there is a period of about 10 weeks during which they feel confident and have the feeling that everything is under control. They may think it is easy to stay off cocaine. Then there is a period during which they can become very depressed as if they are behind a glass wall and can't have fun at all. This period can last more than six months. If this seems too hard to handle, it is recommended to contact a doctor. There is a great risk of relapse at each transitional stage. Be well prepared for this.
