Alprazolam is in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety.
It is used to relieve anxiety, nervousness, and tension associated with anxiety disorders. It is also used to treat panic disorders.
Some brand names for Alprazolam are Xanax and Xanor.
Compared to other benzodiazepines, Alprazolam is unusuable strong and fast acting. This increases the risk for dependence forming.
