Abstract:
There are no known drugs which can cure anorexia, but antidepressive drugs can prevent relapse after getting well.
Question:
are there any medicines which help in the treatment of anorexia nervosa?
Answer:
Antidepressive medicines usually do not help in the acute stages of anorexia nervosa. But recent studies indicates that Prozac can prevent anorexia from recurring again, after the patient has achieved normal weight. Two-thirds of former anorectics who used Prozac after achieving normal weight, did not get anorexia again, while only 16 % could avoid recurrence of anorexia among those who were treated with placebo.
