Do you check the reliability of advertisers in Web4Health? Are they responsible?

Answer:

Advertisements in Web4Health are chiefly from Google AdSense. Google performs some basic checking against obvious fraud, but does not check the medical soundness of advice in advertisements.

Web4Health cannot control which advertisements you get from Google. They are put directly into your web page by Google, and do not even pass us. Google may also show different advertisements to readers in different countries. This means that a European member of the Web4Health project team may never see the ads shown to American readers of the same page.

As a consequence of this, Web4Health can not take any responsibility for the soundness of the advice given in advertisements. Many advertisements are for very good products, but others may be for products which we definitely do not recommend. Our advice to our readers is to apply the same reasonableness testing to advertisements in Web4Health as to any other advertisements. If you are not sure, try to search our data base for information about the product you see advertised. Our informational pages may include advice for or against the advertised products.

Google provides a facility to block ads from certain companies. We can use this facility to block particular ads, if needed.

The content of Web4Health is definitely not in any way influenced by our advertisers.

Web4Health is not a profit-making business. Rather the opposite; in spite of advertisements, Web4Health depends on voluntary unpaid efforts.

If you want to complain about an advertisement, write to us and tell us the web address of the web page which the ad led to. Write to

Ads are clearly marked with text such as "Ads by Google".

If you want to put your own ads in Web4Health, read here.

There are also, sometimes, ads not provided by Google. They are mostly for organisations connected to Web4Health.
