Advice on finding less stressful work.
Question:
My new job has been extremely stressful, difficult customers, lots of politics, a boss that is not pleased by my performance, despite my best efforts to make things work. How should I deal with my depression/stress/anxiety?
Answer:
To look for a new job when one is feeling as bad as you are right now is difficult. My burned out patients have at times been on sick leave for six months and then have been able to find themselves again and were able to work. Is there really no form of sick pay or unemployment money that one can receive in your country? Do you have any money saved? Do you have parents or relatives that can help you or can you perhaps take a loan?
To lose your terrible job seems good in many ways, but not for your economy. Is there some less stressful work that you could do temporarily until you are yourself again?
Gardening has turned out to be very good for some burned out people.
To eat St. John's Wort from the natural drugstore, or to take Prozac/Fontex/Fluoxetine can make you mentally stronger and may help you through this crisis.
Eating wholesome food and taking a walk for about an hour every day can also make you stronger.
Having friends you can talk to and who can support you is also good.
Don't poison yourself with negative thoughts, but rather think that you're happy and that you're going to get a wonderful job. It will become the truth if you are persistent with your positive thoughts, and also take the steps necessary for you to advance in life.
A person who isn't appreciated at work can have great success at another job.
Is there anything that you have done at your job that you should avoid doing at your next one. It might not be poor working performance that makes your boss displeased but rather the fact that he feels unappreciated. A boss who feels that you admire him will not be as critical towards you as someone who doesn't feel liked by you.
