Depression is only life theatening if the patient commits suicide. Illnesses like leukemia and anemia usually do not occur after depressions.

Depression can however cause failure in life, loss of work, loss of friends, loss of thinking capabilities and problem solving capabilities. All of these factors can of course increase the risk of illness and death.
