What are the uses of amitriptyline? Is it for insomnia? I am 6 months pregnant and have insomnia at night. Could this medicine be used to treat that?
I also had a little anxiety, but mostly just problems sleeping. My OBGYN had me try some samples of Zoloft and it made me unbelievablly nauseaus just after 2 pills. Would this medicine do the same?
Amitryptilin is an antidepressant drug. It has some effects for insomnia, yes. But it is not mainly a drug to treat insomnia.
Please consider that insomnia is rather frequent in pregnant women. There are many other reasons for insomnia and effective treatment options without drugs.
There is only little knowledge about side effects on the unborn child related to antidepressants. Amitryptilin seems to be a rather safe choice, but any medication might cause problems to your unborn baby. Side effects may be different to the SSRI Zoloft. But you cannot exclude problems including sedation during the day, dry mouth or other problems. So please talk to your doctor before considering to swallow a new pill for you insomnia problem.
