More info on "mercer" or "murser" (?), Please.

I know that I have the wrong spelling of the post -surgical infection my Mom's developed, but I'm told that it sounds something like "mercer"or "murser".

Can you tell me more about it? It is potentially really bad from what I hear. She complains of greenish yellow smelly discharge from the naval site from which a doctor laparoscopically removed my mother's gall bladder (having claimed that he didn't know about webbing previously installed to seal up a hernia problem. He's blaming the presence or displacement of the webbing/mesh.) The doctor has a nurse coming twice a day to change the dressing, and my mom's on pain pills and antibiotics.
