I'm 18 and have had a generalized anxiety disorder my whole life. I take medication for it and see a psycologist. I've gotten better, but often have relapses. Here are my specific problems: I have OCD, I am partially a hypochondriac, I have a horrible and irrational fear of vomiting, and get panic attacks often. All my irrational thoughts lead back to, "what if I throw up?". Everytime I get these thoughts I get a panic attack where I actually feel like I am going to vomit. I fear eating for the fear that I may throw up a lot, and I am underweight. I've been taught methods to control these irrational thoughts but they don't work. Distracting myself is nearly impossible. Please help

try living somewhere where people dont have anything to eat - maybe you will learn how precious your body is and treat it better

Don't listen to the person who made that last comment. Must not have any clue what this feels like. I too have these irrational thoughts and know your pain. I'm 40 years old and have suffered with this my entire life as well. As far as the "getting sick fear" you do feel physically sick when these attacks hit. A few small tricks are to say to your self (over and over) so what is the worst thing that can happen if I do get sick? I'll be embarrested, yes true, but I won't die from it. Then look around you at the people and say again, who are these people I'm letting control my thoughts. Would you think less of any of them if they were to get sick? Another small help is to have a rubber band on your wrist, when these thoughts hit, snap it on your wrist. It's suppose to help redirect your brain to this new sensation, and help you not go into a full panic attack. I know that these are just words and not a cure in any way but hopefully it can help you cope too. Take care honey, I know this is a hard problem to deal with, and others who don't have it can not imagine how hard it is to cope. My youngest daughter unfortunely has this as well. Imagine this, she is a dancer for college. Performs for 6000 people and has no issues with that, but can not go into any store alone, make phone calls with out alot of anxiety, walk in our dark drive way. We work these things out together and have now tried to find humor in our odd behavior and laugh about it. I don't know you but I will pray for you. I want you to know you are not alone, or did anything to deserve this. Take care
