My friend's sister will be 14 in November. She is adopted (as are my friend & their other sister- 3 girls total, all adopted as infants from different families). The parents are divorced and she lives with her mother but has visitation with her father & step-mother a few times a year. She is the youngest of the 3 girls.
Here is the problem and we would like to know your opinion to see if you think this is a psycholigical issue or a medical issue. She is always hiding her panties and they always have poop on them. She has been caught with paper towels, toilet paper, etc covering it in her panties. She has hid them in the tank of the commode, under the mattress, in the closet, under the sink in the bathroom, in the trash, etc... What is your opinion?
What can we do? What should be done? Would counseling be helpful?
Thanks so much.
Ask her to put her laundry in the washing machine or in a plastic bag in the laundry basket. Give her several clean panties, so she can change whenever needed. In some countries it is possible to buy paper panties to use only once.
Take her to a medical doctor to exclude a medical problem before you see a child psychotherapist.
