Hi,
I genuinly have a friend who i belive has bulimia. I've been through the NHS pages and advice, and as you'd expect it strongly advices she see her local GP. I got her an appointment and managed to make her see it is the start of the road to recovery and is the biggest hurdle to start. Then her GP took little interest and put it down to nerves. I am furious as this has knocked her interest in seeking help and as I'm the only person she feels comfortable talking too, I want to know what I should do next?
A quick overview of symptoms:
-secretive about eating or not
-can't eat without vomiting shortly after (I dont know if it is induced or not)
-will only attempt to eat junk
-very worried about her weight and appearance
-wont go near scales so I can determine her BMI
-holds back on her emotions when she shouldnt
This began after the shock death of her grandfather and hasnt stopped since. She does admit to problems before then but says that they had stopped before the death of her grandfather.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am sorry to hear that your local GP did not understand the severity of her illness. Contact a specialist yourself and ask for advice before you send your friend there. Also read everything about eating disorders in web4health.
