Dear Doctor,

Two weeks ago, several body symptoms occured to me that made me feel very uncomfortable.
It all started with the following symptoms:
In the beginning I was experiencing now and then sweating of my whole body, nautia and tendency to faint. I thought that these symptoms came up because of my usual low pressure, but this was not the case.
A week ago, I had stomachaches, muscle twitches and my whole body was trembling. In the meanwhile I started being afraid of going out and I didn't want to leave my home. Further, I find it very difficult during the night to sleep, and I wake up a couple of times every night.

My doctor told me that all these symptoms came up due to anxiety and I did all the appropriate medical examinations and they were flawless. My doctor gave me Ladose and advised me to take a Lexotanyl (3mg) for the first nights, if I find it necessary. A week has passed since then and I feel calmer, but:
I feel weak, I lost weight and I prefer staying home than hanging out. The night however I feel worse, as I cannot sleep and I have stomachaches.

At the same time I started psychotherapy and my psychotherapist told me that I will become OK and he advised me not to take pills. In the meanwhile, I never told him about the Ladose, since I believe that he will tell me to quit them. The reason is that I believe that the combination of psychotherapy and pills will make me feel better sooner. What is your opinion? I wonder how long it will take for me to become as I was before....

There is a risk that your taking medicine will prevent you from being cured. Be totally honest to you psychotherapist. Medicine does not cure you, it takes away your symptoms. Do not to take medicine during psychotherapy. Feel your anxiety instead and tell your psychotherapist about it. After therapy you can dicide whether you need medicine or not.

Lexotanyl, however, is addictive, which means that if you use it regularly for several months, it will probably stop working, and if you quit using it, you will get abstinence symptoms. If after psychotherapy, you still feel a need for medicine, a good psychiatrist may be able to find less dangerous pills.
