Is it feasible to use pain killers such as Lortab for mental purposes. I take Lortab occassionally for rhuematoid arthritis, however I also like to take them when my foot is not flared up. I currently take 2 to 3 a day for the mental state they put me in. I am not depressed, but I would classify myself as a pessimist. The Lortab puts me a 'good mood' so to speak. Is this an issue I could go to a psychiatrist for and get help with obtaining Lortab for mental purposes?
By using the medicine in this way you are acting in the mannor of a drug addict. Even if it feels good in that moment it is not a solution. To use drugs is a shortcut to happiness since a person who uses drugs to escape the everyday problems does not evolve as a person who experience his feelings and resolve his problems. An alternative is to go through cognitive psychotherapy and start questioning your pessimistic thoughts.
