My husband has adult ADD after a lifetime of probable undiagnosed hyperactive ADD.
One marital counselor pointed out that it has taken him many years to show the emotional maturation of an eighteen year old.
Another counselor attempted to work with my husband's need to control virtually everything in our relationship.
My husband is frequently contradicting any advice I give to my daughter during our mutual phone conversations when she calls home from college. His contradictory advice sometimes concerns matters he has no experience or expertise in. His suggestions are forceful and, if followed, would probably lead to failure and frustration on our daughter's part. She has always gone out of her way to meet both our expectations and to please us with her behavior.
Is there some explanation for this behavior?
My daughter often calls to ask for my husband's advice on many subjects on which he is well-qualified to speak.

Is your husband's attitude a protest against that he feels unloved? Try showing him a lot of appreciation. If he feels accepted and admired, perhaps his needs to assert himself will decrease.
