question
I have a friend who on a one on one basis can be nice and she will even be thoughtful when on holidays to come back with a gift...but when there is a crowed she uses very hurtful playful sarcasm. I have laughed it off for too long and am now finding it insulting to the point that I do not wish to associate with her. To me it seems like jealousy? not sure why? If I ignore her for awhile and then get in contact she will throw another sarcastic remark? I do not have the confidence say something because I hate to hurt people but she is hurting me and it's too much? Do you have any suggestions as to what to say to such people?

Either leave her or give her one chance by telling her how you feel about her comments. If you give her one chance more, then clearly say that this is her last chance and if she continues this is the end of your relationship.

Letter from a reader: Tell your friend that the comments she makes you are really hurtful then if she is a good friend then she will stop the comments if not then don't put yourself through it then end the friendship. Good luck!
