See doc. I'm a self injurer.
Among other things though that's the one that always seems to stick out.
I once read that cutting is often just a symptom of a much larger problem.
My question is do i have a larger problem.
I mean i'm almost scared to ask
but because I do this if I tell my therapist will he put me on meds or send me away or will it be the same?
My question is after i tell him will things change?
I do not send my patients away, if I find out that they cut themselves. I try to convince them to stop their cutting. If they do not manage to stop cutting themselves, medicine might be necessary.
Self-injury is often a symptom of suppressed anxiety, and treatment of this can help with the self-injury. But self-injury can also be addictive in itself, and then has to be treated as an addiction. It can be better to try psychotherapy first, and use medicines only if psychotherapy alone does not help.
