my best friend has been diagnosed with depression but is reluctant to receive treatment because he is worried about its side effects. particularly, he is concerned about whatever biological, genetic, mental or other negative side effects antidepressants could have on his future children and offspring. Could you please verify this and shed more light on this issue.
Cognitive psychotherapy is an option, if you do not want to use SSRI medicine.
There is some concern about risks for children whose mother's used SSRI medicines during pregnancy. There is no known risk of SSRI medicines conveyed from fathers to children. But SSRI medicines have side effects which some people do not find acceptable, such as sexual problems.
