I am wondering if my daughter now almost 20 have ADD or ADHD or any other condition to explain her
absence of concentration and apathy to address day to day important tasks such as coming back home at a
certain time our studying for an important test. She is our first kid and always needed strong and
exhausting supervision in order to perform her homework.
Right now she is hanging with her boyfriend and basically can not stay home coming back almost every
night around 1 or 2 am in the morning. This is in her nature to become obsessed by something and
forgetting the word, us and important tasks she is supposed to perform but that she can ignore regardless
the consequences.
We consulted already 4 Psychologists who addressed the family problem caused by her behavior sibnce
my wife totally object to her current mode of life and behaviour.
However I am still suspecting that our daughter might suffer from some type of condition such as ADD
(or ADHD?) particularly since one uncle and two grand uncle were suffering from some type of behavior problem that seems to be similar to our daughter problem, although much worst. Shall we consult a psychiatry for that? How can we get a diagnosis? What can I do to help her?
Thank you very much for your answer.
Right now you and your wife are concerned. There are many possible reasons for her condition - including learning disorders or adhd. But it is also possible to consider a rather normal behaviour of a young women trying to find a way of her own to experience everyday life. It is rather normal to make faults or to misbehave according to norms of parents. So if your daughter already consulted professionals you should not stick to a neuropsychiatric explaination.
