question
I have had three children. After the first child I quickly developed symptoms of post partum psychosis. However, within 10 weeks of giving birth I discovered I was pregnant with my second child so was unable to take or receive appropriate treatment. After the birth of my second son I was admitted to a specialist psychiatric unit where I was prescribed, among other drugs, lithium and ECT. I was eventually discharged after 3 months only to be readmitted 6 months later where I was prescribed venlafaxine which helped enormously. Following on from this I cut ties from a family who were seen to be having an extreme detrimental affect on my mental health. Since then, 4 years ago, I gave birth to my third son and was perfectly well. We would love to have another child but would like some information on the risk of me being so severely mentally ill again. Many thanks, Clare
