I am 28 years old and currently taking 40mg of strattera for ADD. This does seem to help my attention span and other aspects of my life. I have also been diagnosed with OCD. Strattera seemed to help my OCD, however, I think it is not now. My compulsive behaviors are mainly obsessive cleaning and mental obsessing on things that arent really important. Do you thing I need additional medicine to help or is there 1 medicine that will take care of both problems. I was told that ADD and OCD are common together. Thank you

ADHD and OCD can occur together (about 20-25% of all patients with ADHD have ocd symptoms). Strattera (atomoxetine) is a good medication for adhd and for comorbid depressive symptoms. It will not be the first choice for ocd symptoms. Usually SSRI would be a natural choice for ocd symptoms (or maybe an older tricyclic antidepressant like clomipramine). It is not always possible to combine atomoxetine with these other antidepressants. If this would be necessary you should discuss it with your local psychiatrist. My personal preference would be to use a psychostimulant and SSRI together for these kind of problems.

CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) would a good additional choice. But for many ocd and add patients this is not so effective because the biological basis of the disorder is rather strong in these cases.

Anyway, your problem requires more information and a closer look at prior experiences with different treatment options. So do not hesitate to talk about this issue with your local psychiatrist.
