I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome by a neurologist after extensive tests in my forties. I am presently taking fluxotine. I am now in my mid-fifties and am finding myself having mood swings. My depression lasts about two weeks then disappears. For no specific reason I can find. I wouldn't say I get overly joyful or overly sad the other times. I am on a pretty even keel except when these instances occur. My new bride is having a difficult time with these swings. She says that I seem to just cut everything and everyone off, both emotionally and physically. I pretty much just go to work, come home, eat dinner and do crossword puzzles and fall asleep. I usually wake up in the middle of the night and have a tough time getting back to sleep. Is this related to the Tourette's. Do I need to increase my medication dosage. Or is this simply male menopause? I am thinking about seeing a professional, but if its Tourette's, would it help. Thanks for your answer.

I do not think it is male menopause. Tourette Syndrome may go along with other comorbid disorders like obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or ADHD. Many patients with adhd have severe mood swings and other impairments related to problems of everyday life. Your SSRI antidepressant might be a rather good choice for Tourette and it is also useful for comorbid depression. But I think it would be worth to look for other reasons of affective mood impariments. So ask your therapist about it. If your doctor is specialized in Tourette he should also be familiar with these other disorders.
