When you encounter a new situation, the brain will scan through memories for some previous experience, which can give guidance in the new situation. Maybe you were forced to eat medicine, when you were a child. Sometimes, you are not consciously aware of unpleasant memories from your childhood, you do not remember what actually happended, only the feelings caused by it.
