I've never done this before so I may not make any sense but here goes. I'm a 33 year old woman who is considering psychotherapy on the advice of my primary care physician. I've been having some severe migraines and other body pain that he can find no physical cause for and overall I'm in good health (except for the pack of cigarettes I smoke everyday). I've never had any problems with drugs or alcohol or any other vices for that matter. I think I do o.k. with my life but when I'm under a lot of stress and at certain times of the year my craziness rears it's ugly head and I have a very hard time functioning day to day. I say craziness because I've been told I'm crazy by a lot of people, starting with my parents. I see things that aren't there, hear sounds no one else hears and some times even have pain in certain parts of my body for no apparent reason. I sometimes forget momentarily that I'm a grown up and feel like a kid, I have irrational fears of open spaces and doors. I also have panic attacks and battle with anxiety. I'm afraid to go and tell a therapist these things because I don't want to be told I'm crazy, I already know this, it doesn't need to be reinforced. I guess my question is, is there really anything a therapist can do other than tell me I'm crazy? Thank you for reading this.
A psychotherapist would never tell you that you are crazy. She will help you to get in contact with your feelings and inspire you to solve your problems. Gestalt therapy can be very effective whith the problems you have got.
