can i take 5 htp (L-5-Hydroxytryptophan 50mg/100mg) instead of fluoextine (prozac) 20mg, a day. i suffer with PMDD (pre menstrual dysphoric disorder). My symptoms have considerably improved with teh fluoextine but i'm worried about teh long term side effects of taking it, as an alternative i have looked into the possibilty of taking 5htp, which supposedly does teh same has fluoextine but with little side effects, i have asked my GP but i get no straight answers if at all any, please can u advise.

You should seek the help of a psychiatrist and discuss your concerns with him. It is always good to get a "second opinion," if one is not satisfied with the answer given by one's GP.
