Confessing Suicide

I just told my parents that when I was 24 years (I'm 31 now) old I tried to commit suicide. Was that the right thing to do? I've been feeling that I need to do so in order to move on and open up. However, I feel that it was cruel of me to put them through that at their age, is it? Moreover, I'm thinking of telling my brothers, would you recommend that?
