My 8 year old daughter has just been assessed by a educational psychologist at my request. She will find almost any excuse to get out of doing her school work. She does not spend much time reading but is a good reader. If she had to spell had words she complains they are too hard. Maths is the big headache, she is fine with the easy things but does not wont to do the harder sums. The psychologist told my that she is ADHD and needs to be put on Ritalin. Apparently she is very intelligent and answered a question that a grade 9 would know not a grade 3.I took the psychologists letter to my GP who is reserved to say the least about prescribing this drug. He feels that He would not be fair to her or me with out the school teacher also doing an assessment.
Friends have suggested that she is too intelligent and finds the work boring and does not see why she should try. another friend suggested a certain amount of immaturity and that she will grow out of this. How do I really know if she is ADHD or not. I do not want to put her on a drug if it is unnecessary
