Worried about my Sister

Hi,

I feel guilty because I am 24 and I have a 7 year old half sister who I have never met. We share the same incompetent mother. I have avoided having a relationship with my sister out of fear of it leading to me haveing contact with my mother who I have not seen since age five. Now I hear she is reaching out to other members of our family. I am afraid that her psyche could suffer negative effects because she may feel like she has a sister who "doesn't care" about her. I have never spoken to her before but I am wondering if I should open Pandora's box and risk contact with my mother for my sister's sake. How detrimental is it to my sister that we do not have a relationship?

If your mother is incompetent, your sister needs you. It might be easier for you to handle your mother now, when you are grown up.
