question
my partner gave up smoking and was using NRT to cope. He was doing really well apart from a few slip ups. He lasted for about 6/7 weeks but slowly he has stopped using the patches and started smoking heavily again. I am finding this very hard to deal with. I am a non-smoker and really fear for his health. We have had arguments and I have even walked out over it a few times. He say's i'm being irrational as he smoked when i met him and i was fine with it then. His other excuse is he is stressed, but he has nothing going on in his life to stress him out more than normal. I really can't accept it, i'm finding it really hard to let him smoke and i feel like he doesn't care about how i feel about it. i am just dismissed because 'it never used to be a problem' in his words. But i have always said i hated smoking and said that i wouldn't have babies with a smoker. They would have to commit to us and give up for the sake of their health (although i am not pregnant at the moment). So it shouldn't be that surprising to him surely? I just don't know where to go from here...i'm really unhappy but he thinks i should just accept it and move on.

One possible way is to leave him to find out, what is most important to him, you or nicotine. Be sure that he has your telephone number.
