I'm 32 year old unhappily married male physician. I've moved to the US from Africa since 4 years. I got married through a family arranged marriage just few weeks before I moved. Unfortunately, less than 6 months after our marriage, it was painfully apparent that we are not compatible and we are now planning to divorce ( we have no children yet). However, traditionally both our families need to be involved. We're going back to our home country for a holiday in the middle of next year where our divorce will be formally completed.
Few months ago, I've operated on a lady and in the course of her hospitalization and follow up visits, an excellent and close relationship started between me and all her family. They have never asked me whether I'm married or not and I sensed that they assumed that I'm still single. However, there was no opportunity for us to discuss personal issues.
Recently, they invited me to have a dinner with them at their house. The timing got rescheduled few times since one of their daughters who is young and single ( whom I meet multiple times during her visits to her sister while in hospital) was busy with exams. They wanted to wait for her to finish her exams. They told me that she wants to be there to personally thank me for the exceptional care I took of her sister. I have a *strong* sense that the family, with good intention, wants to introduce me to their daughter on the assumption that I'm single etc....
My patient's family is very nice and their daughter is extremely likable. I feel we will both suit each other.
I'm now puzzled how to tell her and her family when I visit them about my marital situation and my plan to divorce my wife.
I will greatly appreciate any advice or suggestion
Thank you in advance
