Vaginismus and Vaginistic Reaction - Female Painful Sex

Written by: Wendy Moelker, psychologist in charge of Emergis, Goes, the Netherlands.
First version: 22 Jul 2008. Latest revision: 26 Aug 2008.

Abstract:

Muscle contraction makes it impossible to penetrate the vagina.

Question:

What is vaginismus the vaginistic reaction?

Answer:

Women who react in a vaginistic way often call this 'being too narrow'. A strong and instinctive contraction of the muscles around the vagina and of the pelvic floor muscles result in the fact that the penis, or a tampon or finger can't enter the vagina.
