Prevalence of Anxiety Disorders in Adult Population

Abstract:
Between two and ten percent of all people suffer from anxiety disorders.

Question:

How common are anxiety disorders? Are there any surveys showing the prevalence of some kinds of anxiety disorders?

Answer:

Data from the OPCS 1995 household survey show the following frequencies of anxiety disorders:

	All	Women	Men
Generalized anxiety disorder	5 %	5 %	4 %
Phobic disorders	2 %	2 %	1 %
Panic disorder	1 %	1 %	1 %
Obessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)	2 %	2 %	1 %
Mixed anxiety and depression	8 %	10 %	5 %
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)	5 %	7 %	3 %
